Nature of the work

The barman/barmaid prepares various drinks for servers and also entertains customers at the bar and serves them beverages and meals.

Main functions

  • Prepares various beverages on the Bâton Rouge menu
  • Initiates conversations with the customers
  • Develops his or her own clientele
  • Complies with Bâton Rouge recipes
  • Applies health regulations as to cleanliness
  • Applies safety regulations


Must be 18 and over. Have 1 to 2 years of experience as barman/barmaid or have completed a bartending course. Bilingualism, interpersonal skills, teamwork, collaboration, adaptability, good verbal communications skills and listening skills are required. Good personal grooming habits, confidence, integrity, ability to manage stress, dynamic, autonomy and flexibility are also essential.

Working conditions

The schedule varies according to the position, and may include days, nights or weekends. Occasional night work is required. Part-time work is available. The schedule can include split shifts. Work is rather intense at mealtimes.
